VIDEO #1

Length: 1 minute 39 seconds

File Size: 17MB - Download

I received a DVD from Tina which she had converted from a VHS tape released in 1992.

In this excerpt from the 60 minute video, Raccoon is playing “Ring Your Bell” in the parking lot at a Grateful Dead concert.  The rest of the video is mostly of people playing music in different Grateful Dead concert parking lots over a span of 10 years. Raccoon’s segment was only 99 seconds (14:23 – 16:02) but it’s a great 99 seconds! It’s fun watching people dance to Raccoon’s awesome rhythmic stylings and the way he danced while he played is much like Pete described it.

The following was written on the cover of the original VHS tape:

DEADHEADS

A TYE DYE MOVIE BY BRIAN O'DONNELL STARRING ACTUAL "DEADHEADS"

Covering 10 years. This 60 minute art documentary takes an inside look at the artisans,

magicians, musicians and lunatics that make up this cult of devotees, dedicated to a

band that originated in 1965. Why these fans leave their schools, families and jobs to

be part of these ritualistic tribal celebrations of dance, drugs and community, is a

20th century American cultural phenomenon captured here in this time capsule video

tape.

Here’s a photo montage with a version of Yahweh Sunshine previously unavailable, from a 1984 Jam session in Kansas City when the song was brand-new.

Enjoy, folks.

Note: This is not exactly a motion video. This is a picture slideshow of Raccoon in a video format that I received from Peter Zoernig. The pictures that make up this video can also be found here.
