Words and Music
by Raccoon
as recorded on Rainbow Warrior
I
saw an old friend at the Culpeper Tavern
We
drank some wine and we had a good time
We
traded stories like any good travelers
But
stories of truth was all we could find
I
told him of the way that I’ve searched for God’s valley
Ever
to wander – never to find
Then
he told me of a place where an old white-haired man lived
Fishin' the rivers and casting
the sea
That’s
just what I need
By
seven a.m. I was saddled and traveling
Riding
for the valley on the words of my friend
I
rode for three days till I came to the tall trees
I
found a sign that said this is the boundaries of man
I
rode one more day till I came to big mountain
I
climbed to the top and there did I stand
That
evening the rain came riding the thunder
The
winds played a song till the first grey of dawn
I
had to hang on
In
the morning the birds came dancin' and singin'
Leading
me the way to the valley below
I
let my horse go
I
found the old man – He was down by the river
With
an eagle on his shoulder and a line in his hand
We
traded stories like any good travelers
But
mostly we spoke by moving our hands
He
found his wife on the raging grey river
He
gave her his love – She gave him her hand
They
had ten children – The eldest a daughter
Who
spoke to the deer by moving her hands – Understand
I
saw an old friend at the Culpeper Tavern
We
drank some wine and we had a good time
We
traded stories like any good travelers
But
stories of truth was all we could find
