* This D chord is played with the ring finger on the 5^th fret of the 6^th string, the pinkie on the 5^th fret of the 5^th string and the middle finger on the 4^th fret of the 4^th string (same as using the C form brought up two frets and adding the low A note on the E string at the 5^th fret - It’s essentially a D chord with A as the bass note). ** Note: He throws this progression in the middle of the basic D to A – similar to his song, “Concrete Mountains.” The D is done by playing a regular D chord and putting your pinkie on the 5^th fret of the high-E string (the A note) then this same form is used for the rest of the chords, i.e. the F is 3 frets above the D.
